Recreational Vehicle Insurance

Whether you are a weekend warrior or a full-timer, RV insurance is key to protecting your rolling kingdom.

Recreational vehicles are a significant investment, and you want to make sure your investment is adequately covered.  However, due to their uniqueness, it can present a challenge when it comes to insuring them.  RV’s are like a car, and home rolled into one, and RV insurance is the best way to cover them.

What is RV Coverage?

RV insurance can protect your motorhome, travel trailer, camper and even your horse trailer. Let Fusco & Orsini Insurance Services help you select the right coverage for your RV needs and get a great price at the same time.

You can even request a quote online, and we will get back to you with quotes from multiple companies so you can compare and save!

Recreational Vehicle Insurance

RVs that are for personal, recreational use can be insured for up to 250 days per year. This gives you plenty of time to travel south and enjoy some warmer winter weather or that extended vacation.

Liability coverage provides you with bodily injury and property damage coverage, medical payments, uninsured coverage, and more. Coverage varies by state.

You may be able to choose how your Comprehensive and Collision coverage will be settled in the event of a covered total loss.

Options tailored to your needs can include:

Stated Value–market value/actual cash value of the RV

Agreed Value–the insured amount, regardless of the current market value

Replacement Cost–replace your insured RV with a new RV that is most like it

Consider Vacation Liability coverage for when you stop driving and start using your recreational vehicle as a temporary residence. Some policies can include additional coverage for physical damage in Mexico.

Personal Effect Coverage provides replacement cost for damage or loss to items normally used with your RV when physical damage coverage is selected.

Some policies include Roadside Assistance, which has you covered 24/7 in the event of a breakdown or accident. Some will even allow you to upgrade the coverage to include lodging, transportation, and meal coverage if needed.

Ask if customer assistance is available 24/7 to answer all your insurance questions. In the event you have a loss, the insurance companies we work with have skilled claims teams who will work with you to get your RV repaired and back on the road.

Other additional coverage can include accident forgiveness, pet coverage, diminishing deductible, and more.

Discounts can lower your premium. Ask if you qualify for safe driver discounts, original owner discounts, package discounts and more.

You can save money if you insure more than one item with a single company, including your home, cars, motorcycles, classic cars, and boats.

Recreational RV Use vs. Full Time Use

If you live in your RV or motorhome and claim no other residence, you will want to purchase insurance for full-timers. Full-timer Coverage is much like a homeowners policy from the standpoint of potential liability to others.  It replaces Liability Coverage for those that use their RV as a main residence.  It includes accidents that may occur while driving the RV or accidents that may happen in an RV (OR on the campsite) while the RV is stationary.

The great thing about a full-timers policy is that your insurance company is fully aware that you live in your motorhome and that it does not remain stationary.  An insurance company might deny coverage if it was not disclosed to them that the RV was intended to be used as a permanent residence.  Be sure to let us know during the quote process that your RV is your primary residence so we may provide you with an accurate quote.

Do I need RV Insurance?

If you drive a motor home, it is required by most states that you carry liability coverage.  If you have a towable, liability coverage is not needed for it but is necessary for the vehicle towing it.  However, RV’s can cause severe property damage in an accident, and the limits on your auto policy may not be enough so it would be a wise decision to carry liability for the RV as well.  It’s also a good idea to carry liability insurance for any mishaps that might happen at the campsite. For example, another camper falling down the steps of your RV and injuring themselves.

Now, let’s talk about all the things that could go wrong while RVing.  Just a few common mishaps could be flat tires, body damage from backing into a spot with low hanging branches, or theft of personal belongings. Or maybe you forget to retract an awning or antenna before pulling out of the park. Repairs can be costly, and if you are not carrying an RV policy, you are going to be paying for all of those things out of pocket.  Still not convinced?  Let’s say you are cooking a gourmet meal inside and decide to walk over and invite the neighbors over for dinner. However, you stayed a little too long chatting and when you stepped outside to see your precious RV was engulfed in flames.  Replacing an RV is a huge chunk of money, not to mention all of your belongings.  Carrying a policy with comprehensive coverage on it would cover you in this unfortunate situation.

Bottom line, you may think of your RV as a car just cruising down the road, but they are big, heavy, complicated machines, with house-like systems that get jarred continuously as you drive down the road.  While insurance is not a maintenance policy, it can certainly help you when it comes to accidents that may occur while enjoying your RV.

Here are a few tips to help you reduce your risk:

  • Know how tall your RV is
  • Know the length of your RV
  • Know how wide your RV is
  • Go slow
  • Be patient
  • Work as a team
  • Practice driving and parking
  • Know the swing room you need in turns
  • Determine your tail swing
  • Plan routes ahead of time
  • Give lots of distance between you and the vehicle in front of you on the road
  • Expect carelessness of other drivers
  • Attend a driving course
  • Go to safety seminars
